Cherry laurel buds in the process of opening. A tall vertical stem where most of the buds have opened and 'exploded' into multiple tiny stamens. Set against a background of green leaves and vegetation.

a meeting of the gaze

who is watching who?

***

A line of feral pigeons perched on the high edge of the old limekilns at Charlestown Harbour. The high vertical wall is built of rough stone of various sizes and colours from light sandstone to burnt umber. Some shrubs are visibly sprouting along the top edge. The sky above is almost fully cloud blocked with a seam of blue sky running through.

Some birds are peering down, following me with slight turns of the head as I walk past below. Today they remain on the top of the wall. Often they will take flight collectively, swooping, as one, around the harbour, once, twice, three times, before returning to alight on this perch.
